This 316,000 acre park, part of the Toiyabe National Forest, is located about 35 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Mt. Charleston is located in this dog-friendly park and has many hiking trails. Temperatures here can average 25 to 30 degrees cooler than in Las Vegas. The Mary Jane Falls trail, located on Mt. Charleston, is one of the more popular trails. The trail passes a seasonal waterfall and several small caves. The trail is about 2.4 miles and starts at about 7840 foot elevation. To reach the trailhead, take State Route 157, travel 2 miles west of the ranger station to Echo Road. After traveling .35 mile, take the left fork off Echo Road and continue up until the road ends. Dogs must be on leash.
