Dave Moore Nature Area
Dave Moore Nature Area Highway 49 Coloma, California
916-985-4474
Map
This nature area features a one mile loop and about half of the trail is wheelchair, walker and stroller accessible. It starts at the parking lot and goes down to the South Fork of the American River and back, passing through several types of habitat. Located in the heart of the historic Gold Rush area, the trail is lined with remnants from about 150 years ago when Chinese laborers channeled the creek water by hand with a pick and shovel to find gold. Leashed dogs are welcome. Please clean up after your dog. To get there from Sacramento, take Highway 50 east towards Placerville. In Shingle Springs, take the Ponderosa Road exit and go over the freeway bridge to the stop sign (located just north of Highway 50). Turn right onto North Shingles Road and go 3 miles. Turn left at the Y in the road onto Lotus Road. Continue for 5 miles heading north. At Highway 49 turn left and cross the bridge at the river. Continue for about 1 mile along Highway 49. Turn left at the cobblestone wall. There are no park fees, but donations are accepted.
