This campground is located at 5,120 feet and is shadowed by some of the most impressive peaks in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The camp is located in an open desert setting with a view of Alabama Hills and Mt. Whitney. There are 85 tent and RV sites, but no potable water. Amenities include 9 pit toilets, stream water, barbecues, fire rings and picnic tables. All sites are based on a first-come, first-served basis. This campground is managed by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management). Pets on leash are allowed and please clean up after them. Dogs may not be left unattended. They may be off lead on the trials if they are under good voice control. To get there go 3.5 miles west of Lone Pine on Whitney Portal Road. Then go 1.5 miles south on Horseshoe Meadows Road and follow the sign to the campsite. This campground is closed during the off-season. The camping and tent areas also allow dogs. There is a dog walk area at the campground. There are no electric or water hookups at the campgrounds.
