If you are up for some adventure, try this 93 mile driving tour which traverses by many points of interest in the Great Basin Desert. The loop begins and ends in Cedarville and takes a minimum of three hours and longer if you make any stops. The Bureau of Land Management offers a 32 page self-guided Byway Tour Guide which tells about the historic and prehistoric stories of Surprise Valley. It includes details about fossils and wildlife. The byway is paved in California and is a gravel road in Nevada which can be passable by all vehicles when the road is dry. Dogs on leash are allowed. Please clean up after your dog. Contact the following BLM office for a map and more details: BLM, Surprise Field Office, 602 Cressler Street, Cedarville, CA 96104, 530-279-6101. The office is open Monday through Friday.
