This major land and water recreation destination is an 1,100 acre park on the Blue Ridge Parkway astride the Roanoke River that also features an outdoor living history museum, a film center, special event venues, miles of trails, historic areas, and stunning views of its beautiful diversity. Dogs are welcome throughout the park with the exception of the Historic Park area or in buildings. For visitors with pets who would like to visit the historic areas, there are free locked kennels; just pick up keys and a water bowl at the admissions office. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times.
