Perched on rugged sandstone cliffs high above the ocean, Shore Acres is a combination of beautiful natural and constructed features. There is a garden here that has flowers from all over the world. Although pets are not allowed in the garden, they are allowed throughout the day use areas and trails, and may be left in your auto (weather permitting) while you tour the gardens. There is a network of hiking trails that connect Sunset Bay with nearby Shore Acres and Cape Arago State Parks. These trails give the hiker opportunities to experience the pristine coastal forests, seasonal wildflowers, and the spectacular ocean views. There is a fully enclosed observation building that has interpretive panels describing the history of the Simpson estate along the way. From points along the trail you can see views of Gregory Point and the Cape Arago lighthouse. The park is open year round from 8 a.m. until sunset.
