Fort Sumner State Monument
Fort Sumner State Monument 3647 Billy the Kid Road Fort Sumner, New Mexico
88119 505-355-2573 Map
This monument was once a military site that held captive thousands of Native Americans who were forced to leave their homeland, and documents the journey they made and of their eventual return. Living history demonstrations in summer, a visitor center, and an interpretive trail allow visitors to experience the history of this site. The park is also host to a variety of events throughout the year. Dogs are welcome around the grounds and on the trial, but not in park buildings. Dogs must be under their owner's control, and leashed and cleaned up after at all times.
