Greate Smoky Mountains National Park is located both in Tennessee and North Carolina and is one of the most popular of the National Parks. Pets must be leashed or restrained at all times within the park and are not allowed on most of the hiking trails. They can accompany you in your car and at lookouts and stops near the road. However, there are two trails in Great Smoky Mountains National Park that will allow leashed dogs. The Gatlinburg Trail is a 1.9 mile trail from the Sugarland's Visitor Center to the outskirts of Gatlinburg; it runs along the forest with beautiful river views and it passes old homesteads along the way. It follows a creek a good portion of the way. The Oconaluftee River Trail follows along the river for a 1.5 mile
