For more than 120 years thousands of greyhounds and their owners have gathered to participate in this event held annually on Columbus Day weekend. There are a variety of activities, contests, educational and rescue programs, and plenty of doggy and human shopping available. The town's dog license requirement is covered under a special events license that covers all the dogs registered. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times; please bring clean up supplies. Dogs are allowed on Dewey Beach after October 1st; however, Rehoboth Beach has implemented a 4-day permit for the event as they usually do not allow dogs on the beach until after October 31st.
